Notes: According to a transcript by Albert Guembel (in Aktenstuecke zur Geschichte der Mittelfraenkischen Uhrmacherkunst, Halle 1928) the city council minutes of Nuernberg (Germany) [Manuscript in the Nuernberg city archives] for 1565 deal with a decree issued at the request of 3 clockmakers (Esaias Vogel, Hans Praun & Marx Stoppinger)specifying masterpieces for Kleinuhrmacher. This marks for this location the beginning of regimented horological crafts (before clockmaking was a free profession) organised into a guild (in Nue. together with locksmiths and firearm makers), some of the rules of guilds were changed in 1629 (Amts- und Standbuecher der Stadt Nuernberg No 261, Fol.371-381) but the required masterpieces stayed the same .
